LOFTS of Mt. Washington

Mt. Washington

200 Cowan Street, Pittsburgh PA 15211

LOFTS of Mt. Washington is a 67-unit apartment community that shows how any structure can be revitalized through creative and intentional reuse projects. This apartment community occupies the former Prospect School in Pittsburgh’s Mt. Washington neighborhood, which served students from 1931 to 2006.

Despite being listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the art deco-style building was at risk of falling into disrepair from extended disuse. In 2014, the building was restored and converted into residences with generous ceiling heights and abundant natural light.

Still retaining its original art deco character inside and out, LOFTS of Mt. Washington offers its residents the best of both worlds, with its location near the 267-acre Emerald View Park for immediate green space access while also remaining close to Downtown.

Fun Facts:

  • Nearly all of the 500+ windows were replaced in 2022 as part of a comprehensive building upgrade.
  • Nine two-story townhomes are located within the former school gymnasium.
